Patchwork en Quiltdagen

This weekend the Patchwork en Quiltdagen were held here in our "backyard" in Vijfhuizen. An enormous amount of shops were there and some wonderful exhibitions. I was able to add some great fabrics to my Dutch fabric stash, found the perfect cornerstones for my Civil War quilt and bought some cute fabrics to make myself new potholders. Quilt exhibition in Alphen

Today I visited a quilt exhibition in Alphen aan den Rijn. It was held in one of the ugliest churches I have ever seen, a typical seventies built. The exhibiton, however, was an enormous surprise. I didn't expect it to be so large, with so many quilts. I had a wonderful time. With a big kiss for my husband for driving me to Alphen!

What a surprise to find this award winning quilt by Ted Storm, "Spring of Desire" here in a small church in Alphen. I saw it in Leeuwarden, some time ago, from a distance behind ropes, and here... I could examine every stitch up close.

Playing Hooky

What a way to spend your monday morning! My mom and I decided to play hooky and give ourselves a treat, we went to Haarlem to visit a quiltexhibition by A.'s quiltgroup. The exhibition was in an old convent hallway, which was a perfect background for the quilts. There were so many lovely quilts, I just have to share this with you! I'll show my favourites...

And of course it was great to see A.'s Japanese quilt again. It really is amazing! We then walked to the market, but were a bit disappointed with the number of fabric stands (only 3), so I'll have to wait for the Stoffenspektakel next week.

And on we went to our next quilt exhibition. This was of the "Heemsteekjes" in Heemstede. This quiltgroup did a block swap with its twelve members. It was a really nice exhibition too. I'm still wondering how they did this quiltwork all together.

One member of the group gave the others a pattern and then put all the blocks together. These cute kimono's were folded into shape.

I can never resist a quilt with Dutch fabrics in it.

London

From June 11 till June 13, M. and I went to London. For the kids: here it is, the Big Ben!

Our first walk through London brought us to some lovely places.

But here is our main goal: The Victoria and Albert Museum for the Quilt Exhibition! After three hours in the exhibition we also visited the fashion department and the Grace Kelly exhibition. We arrived at our hotel at half past ten.

The next day, off to Bath.

On our way to the visit of the day: the American Museum. In the coach house is a quilt exhibition and in the main house many more quilts can be seen.


Of course we had to have tea and scones.

We'll have to make these Bath Buns some time too...
On Sunday we did a London Walk through the City Centre, which was great and we went back to the V&A to have a look at the samplers... Three wonderful days. G.

Quilt Exhibition in Hoofddorp

I lived in Hoofddorp for four years, but had never noticed this little church. The local quiltgroup (21 ladies) organizes a quilt exhibition every three years, so I was lucky to have heard of it!

When entering the church I noticed this masterpiece, a Dear Jane, which I photographed for I. and M., to give them inspiration for their quilts.

This one is called "My workroom" so cute with the small rotary cutters and other sewing appliances.

I can never walk past a quilt in Dutch fabrics of course.

This is a Sunbonnet Sue, but with a Dutch twist. The woman who made it told me she wanted to use our own Dutch holidays in this quilt, so she put in Sint Maarten for Halloween, and Sinterklaas (shoes by the fireplace) for Christmas. She also substituted the turkey being chased with a hatchet by a appletree.

The ladies inspire each other to start the same projects. I had so much fun playing hooky this morning! G.

Exhibition Quiltersgilde

The exhibition of the Quiltersgilde was in the Grote Kerk in Alkmaar.

Exhibition

In our library the local quiltgroup organized an exhibition. It was just great to see all the beautiful quilts they had made. The group is called "de Meerquilters".
