Leuke workshop

Gisteren een heel leuke workshop gevolgd bij de Sampler in Haarlem. Maria leerde ons alle ins and outs van het handquilten. Ja, je leest het goed HANDquilten! Ik ben even van mijn geloof afgestapt of eigenlijk van de naaimachine afgestapt. Ik wil de Civil War quilt gedeeltelijk met de machine gaan quilten, maar vanwege het enorme formaat wil ik de blokken met de hand gaan quilten. De materialen ervoor heb ik nu in huis, nu nog even flink oefenen, want een regelmatig, klein steekje maken is nog best lastig. G.

Kerstworkshop

Vorige week hebben M., A. en ik een kerstborduurworkshop gevolgd bij "de Handwerkboetiek" in Roden. (ik dacht dat het in Groningen was, maar blijkbaar waren we in Drenthe... domdomdom). Het was wel even heeeeel vroeg opstaan en heeeel lang rijden, maar het was supergezellig, en wat een enorm leuke winkel! Ik heb een schitterende borduurstof gekocht en weer allerlei leuke ideetjes opgedaan. Heerlijk. We hebben dit bandje om het stolpje geborduurd en nog een extra bandje meegekregen wat in een hartje past, dus dat komt ook vast nog wel eens voorbij op de blog. G.

Haken...

I. heeft een heel leuk wolwinkeltje ontdekt in Haarlem. M. is al flink aan de slag met breien, haar tweede sjaal is al in wording en ik.... tja, mijn dochter kan wel breien, maar ik helemaal niet. Dus toen M. vertelde dat er ook leuke workshops werden gegeven vond ik het wel tijd worden dat ik mij ook eens met de wol zou gaan bezighouden. De enige beginners cursus was een rozetje haken. Haken.... tjeee, het leek zo makkelijk. Maar het is één en al tellen en opletten geblazen. Ik was de enige van het clubje cursisten dat de bloem niet afkreeg, maar gelukkig is het me later op de dag toch nog gelukt! Of dit mijn nieuwe hobby gaat worden, ik betwijfel het.... Met de naaimachine kun je toch iets makkelijker meters maken. G.

Machine Appliqué

M. and I did a workshop at "the Stitch Cottage" in Den Haag. We learnt how to use our sewing machines for appliqué. It was really nice to discover all the possibilities of our sewing machines and how very great "vliesofix"is. Now we are all ready to start working on our McKenna Ryan Christmas quilt. G.

Workshop

Friday evening M. and I did a workshop at the "Putkha" we made this winter wreath. It was a lot easier than the stuffed pumpkin we did last time. I haven't hung it on my door yet, because of the november storms.. G.

A New Hobby

Last night M. and I did a workshop jewelry making. I wanted to make a necklace to go with my evening dress. It wasn't easy to crochet the beads together, but I'm very happy with the result. Going through the beads-shop was like being in a candystore. You just wanted to use everything in your work! M. made a gorgeous bracelet. My only other comment is: when can we go again, please please please.... G.

Preparations

We received the instructions for our next workshop: "double sided log cabin". I've never had to do so much work in advance for a workshop yet! I had to cut meters and meters of fabric, and sew them all together again. I can't wait until Friday to start piecing them together! G.

Feathered Star

Friday February 15th, M. and I did another wonderful workshop in our favourite quiltshop, Irma´s Sampler in Haarlem. We were taught how to make a Feathered Star block by our teacher Lucy. Lucy gave us permission to publish the photo´s of her wonderful quilt designs, thank you so much! Check out her great weblog, she makes so many beautiful quilts: Quilting with the past




One feathered star consists of nine blocks. We made two in the workshop (10 to 15.30), so don´t expect our blocks to be on the blog very soon. I liked this block very much (much better than the triangle tractatie), but that´s perhaps because I worked a bit neater this time (I had another not so good moment with working quick and dirty this week), and I used better fabric (t.i. more expensive fabric!). We worked so very hard, that we did not even take the time to browse the store and we went home with only one new fabric! Well, we can change that soon, because our next workshop is in March! We are very excited to do a workshop taught by the shopowner, Gré. I´ll keep you posted! G.

Circle In The Square Workshop

G. and I attended another workshop the day before I left for Costa Rica (in the mean time we have enrolled in another two workshops in February and March 2008). The design is called 'Circle In The Square'. I intend to make a lap quilt of this design with the fabrics I bought on the net and at Gre's shop. G.'s block is the one in the bottom right hand corner. I believe I'll bribe G. in giving me a refresher's course when I pick up this quilt again... haven't got a clue anymore...Phew... I am ready to face G. again... she would not stop nagging and had lost all faith in me (blogging that is).

Freehand Feathers

Yesterday we discovered the wonders of our sewing machine foot. We did a workshop at Sylkamode in de Rijp and learnt how to draw with our Pfaffs. It was great! Sylvia, the teacher, taught us all about machine quilting feather forms. All we have to do now is work on getting our stitches nice and even and we can quilt anything!

And it was great to be in her shop again. I had missed browsing through the bolts of fabric. And we had a great find: fabrics for Juniors wild animal quilt. G.
