Masterclass - Kaffe Fassett

Finally... I had to wait for a couple of months... signed up for a Masterclass by Kaffe Fassett back in June... not knowing what to expect. Cut an enormous amount of fabric squares beforehand... and drove all the way to Leeuwarden. Well worth the effort! I absolutely loved it!! The end result looks completely different from what I expected...
First Kaffe showed us his 'Dickie Bow Quilt'...
Then we had to put the fabrics on our plan board... stop thinking, just put the fabrics on the board and rearrange later... Above my initial layout...
The feedback from Kaffe and Brandon Mably, his assistant.... my background fabric was competing with the bows. Kaffe asked me to pick my favourite fabrics and took me shopping - every girls dream! After lots of rearranging - this is the end result.
Kaffe does a tour of all quilts at the end of the day (and do not think you can skip this!!). Mine 'went through a lot of changes... hot strength... speaks of masculinity'... not sure he liked it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Little Miss T's Quilt And Pillowcase

Little Miss T. has her quilt for quite some time now, but I haven't hung it out for a formal picture yet. A week or so after M. finished the quilt she added a pillowcase in purple to go with the quilt (at special request of Little Miss T. of course). G.

Dear G,

You were so right to push me into posting this quilt ;-) My first post in 2008 on the first quilt I ever made. I cannot remember when I discovered Kaffe Fassett's fabrics - maybe you remember? - but it was an instant, deep love... When I discovered the pattern for this utility quilt in Kaffe's V&A Museum book, I was instantly hooked once again... by the simplicity of the pattern. Little did I know at the time that the patchwork part is the easy bit... quilting the top that's the real challenge. But don't you agree we have come a long way?!? Had you told me 20 years ago, back in 1988... that this would be in our future...I would not have believed you! And this year we're going to see these V&A quilts with our very own eyes.

Apart from seeing the V&A quilts... what is my wishlist for 2008? To stitch and quilt... not my stash wishlist... wink ;-).

Kaffee Quilt

Result of one lazy Sunday afternoon, spent behind my sewingmachine. Now I have to wait for M. to return from Costa Rica to give me advice on the borders. Big Sister is happy already!

Progress

As you can see, Little Miss T. is very happy with the progress M. has made on her quilt. M. has added the purple borders, which was no easy task keeping the flower flowing the same way. G.

Finally!

We've waited for over a month for the last fabrics for Little Miss T and Miss R's quilts. Don't you just hate the customs office. The other fabrics are for M.'s Triangle Traktatie quilt and she just couldn't wait for Thursday to see them... G.

Little Miss T. Approves!

Such a relief! I showed the progress of her quilt to Little Miss T. today and she liked it. Top is nearly finished, I only need to add the border. Border fabric is the green one with pink flowers...third row from the top, second fabric from the left.

All´s rearanged by Mom.... Tell me what you think! All the bright pinks are removed, but for the heart of the quilt. With the suggestion to make the border pretty in pink... G.

Little Miss T.'s Quilt

Block layout for my first 'commissioned' quilt. Little Miss T. is quite the demanding customer who knows what she wants. I was quite relieved to find out she likes the fabric I picked. Fortunately her favourite colour features in the design as well: purple. I sense that she'd like me to get a move on... Please do not tell her that my sewing machine is 'fixed'... she still believes it is broken.

Any ideas for a matching pillow cover?

Window Blind

My window blind is finished! Now I only need to find the right tool to hang it in my powder room... Please also notice my incredibly wide... ironing table. I cannot believe I lived without it all these years...;-)
